Panda Pockets Stampede

A flier for the Oh Messy Life radio program consisting of hand written text in front of two Françoise Hardy 7" records.

Oh Messy Life – June 20, 2024 Show Notes

Track 1: Françoise Hardy – La Fille Avec Toi

Starting the show off with a track from Françoise Hardy in her memory.

Track 2: The Shadows – Apache

Françoise Hardy’s wikipedia page contain an anecdote the she was unhappy with the quality of the musicianship on her early recordings, and she wished she had cool sounding guitars like The Shadows, so I thought I would throw on their hit song.

Track 3: EDDIE MARCON – panda no youni

Found this via BandCamp promo email.

Track 4: GRAND INVINCIBLE – QUACK

From the CONTRABAND ALTARS release. I don’t really understand what is going on here, but I like it.

Track 5: Awkward – TAPES 28

From a collection of old beats made back in the late 90s early 2000s.

Track 6: Juana Molina – Cara de espejo (ANRMAL)

The synth bits here seemed to almost, but not quite, line up with the ones in the Awkard beat.

Track 7: Ruby Falls – The Way of Colleen

I picked up the Move Into The Villa Villakula in the mid 90s for the Sleater-Kinney tracks, but thought I’d revisit one of the other bands on the comp.

Track 8: Team Dresch – Your Hands My Pockets

I saw they were coming through town and dug up this track from the recently re-activated band.

Track 9: Lorelle Meets The Obsolete – Datura (MEMORIALS Remix)

Another BandCamp promo find.

Track 10: Melt-Banana – Infection Defective

I usually go to the earlier albums when I wanna listen to Melt-Banana, so I thought I would check out a slightly later release.

Track 11: Melcochita y Los York’s – El Sicodélico

Via BandCamp promo, I’m digging the rawness here.

Track 12: The Scarlets – Stampede

I recently threw together a comp of surf music for a friend and discovered this track in the process.

Track 13: Jim Campilongo 4TET – Do Not Disturb

From the album She Loved the Coney Island Freak Show.

Track 14: Billy Boy Arnold – I Wish You Would

I can’t quite remember where I ran across this one.

Track 15: Sue Foley – Freight Train

From the KZSU A-File.

Track 16: Françoise Hardy – Soleil

Ending things off with one more track from Françoise Hardy. Rest in peace, Françoise.
