Perfect Morning Misery

Oh Messy Life – September 8, 2022 Show Notes

Track 1: Wizard Brain – Down the Shore

Found this on an indie pop round up from White Light // White Heat

Track 2: The Cocker Spaniels – Culture War

The line “If you try to tell me one plus one’s no longer two
I don’t see the point in talking calculus with you” grabbed me.

Track 3: Renovator’s Delight – Bark All Night

Another one from the indie pop round up, I love their bass sound.

Track 4: BRNDA – Perfect World

I put a track of theirs on a mix a while ago, a BandCamp promo email made me go back for more.

Track 5: Funny Bone – Die Laughing

Heard some folks singing their praises online, so I thought I’d check them out.

Track 6: Moira Scar, Vortex Empath Xen – FreakFace

Local bay area folks, feels like they’ve been around for a while now.

Track 7: A Certain Ratio – Yo Yo Gi

Kind of interesting to see one of the old school Post Punk bands leaning harder and harder into the funk.

Track 8: Fontaines D.C. – Skinty Fia

From the KZSU A file.

Track 9: MESAFA – Morning Dew (edit)

MESAFA is a new collaboration from Sarah FM and Alsarah. I remember getting a cassette tape of Sarah FM’s very first band on the school bus in high school.

Track 10: Billy Bates – Cold Nights in Dub

Memories of Billy singing the praises of the “King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown” album a good many years ago.

Track 11: Bennie Maupin & Adam Rudolph – SECOND MOVEMENT

From the Symphonic Tone Poem for Brother Yusef album, commissioned to honor the 100th birthday of the late Yusef Lateef.

Track 12: Toshi Kasai – Lines of Misery

Another track from the new Based On True Stories album.

Track 13: Maren Celest – Petrichor

Heard about this one from a fellow squirrel watcher.

Track 14: Jenny Scheinman – I Was Young When I Left Home

Heard this one years ago and it gets stuck in my head sometimes.
