Oh Messy Life – November 10, 2022 Show Notes
Track 1: Jungle Studs – I Want (To Stop It Now)
I heard that D.H. Peligro, drummer for the Dead Kennedys from 1981 onwards, had passed away. This is a track from one of his later bands, Jungle Studs, from their 1986 LP.
Track 2: Body Double – The Floating Hand
Another track from their album Milk Fed.
Track 3: Street Eaters – Loose Grip
I have a memory of Megan coming down to play on KZSU years ago with the band and all their gear fitting into a VW Rabbit.
Track 4: Neutrals – New Town Dream
Another track from the Bus Stop Nights EP.
Track 5: My Name Is Joe – Somewhere Far Away
One time at a part Tommy told a story about buying a drum off of the Minutemen when they came through on tour.
Track 6: Otoboke Beaver First-class Side-guy
From the KZSU A-file.
Track 7: Lyrics Born – This Song’s Delicious (feat Dan the Automator and Sitcom Dad)
The lyric “gaps in her memory like the smile on Anna Paquin” is some world class rhyming.
Track 8: Mochipet – Toy Piano Core (Featuring Twink)
Somehow attributed on BandCamp to Girls Love Breakcore, this entire album is way too much fun.
Track 9: Margaret Leng Tan – Modern Love Waltz
From the 1997 album, The Art of the Toy Piano.
Track 10: Hannah Addario-Berry – Calor
A rediscovery via some promotion over on Mastodon.
Track 11: Bill Orcutt – Two things close together
I had the pleasure of setting up the mics for Bill Orcutt’s performance on KZSU’s day of noise. He just wanted a pair of room mics and nothing else. Sounded great.
Track 12: Arrington de Dionyso’s Malaikat dan Singa – Mingkar Mingkur RAW HONEY MIX
Fun stuff from a member of the band Old Time Relijun.
Track 13: Melt Yourself Down – Born in the Manor
From their album 100% Yes.
Track 14: Deadform – Man’s Greatest Fraud
Another track from their Self Titled Demo.
Track 15: Ludicra – In the Greenest Maze
Some of my favorite metal vocals ever.
Track 16: Deathgrave – Trichillo Mania
Fern used to be in a band called Bird and occasionally my mind would mess with me and flip the two names.
Track 17: Dead Kennedys – Rawhide
A classic from the D.K.’s in tribute to D.H.’s passing.
Track 18: Peligro – Black Bean Chili Thing
And ending things off with a little acapella track I found tucked at the end of D.H.’s band Peligro‘s first album.
