Oh Messy Life – December 1, 2022 Show Notes
Track 1: Cecile McLorin Salvant – Wuthering Heights
Heard about this one from Larry Bob, of the zine Holy titclamps.
Track 2: Miquela e Lei Chapacans – Dizco rural
Another track I found via a recommendation on Mastodon
Track 3: Dezron Douglas – Luna Moth
This one I found via Bandcamp promotional email.
Track 4: Rickie Lee Jones – Dat Dere
Tommy Strange, of the band My Name is Joe, of all people recommended this one.
Track 5: Secret Emchy Society – Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly Fond of Each Other
Another recommendation via Larry Bob.
Track 6: Orville Peck – The Curse of the Blackened Eye
From the KZSU A-file
Track 7: Discos Resaca – Cumbia Esta Noche
Another discovery from a Mastodon recommendation.
Track 8: Ritmos Tropicosmos – Cumbia En La Sierra
Local bay area cumbia band. Word is they are taking a bit of time off right now to record a full album.
Track 9: Dick Hyman – The Man From O.R.G.A.N.
Many many years ago, when I first started at KZSU there was another new DJ named Rae Sue. That was where I first heard Dick Hyman, along with Les Baxter, Esquivel! and much more.
Track 10: Jim Campilongo – I’ve Got Blisters On My Fingers
The Jim Campilongo and the 10 Gallon Cats album is an all time favorite, so I thought I would check out some other material.
Track 11: BIG|BRAVE – do.no.harm.do.no.wrong.Do.No.Harm.Do.No.Wrong.DO.NO.HARM.DO.NO.WRONG
Pretty sure I heard about this band on Mastodon also.
Track 12: AninoKo – Buhay at Lupa
From their album Ugat.
Track 13: THE Q FACTOR – Stand Up In The Name of Archibald Tuttle
I never saw The Q Factor, but I did quite enjoy a subsequent band, Former Members Of Alfonsín.
Track 14: End of the Line – Sedative
From the remixed and remastered version of their self titled LP.
Track 15: TRUCIDO – LEAKY GUT
Another Bandcamp promo email find.
Track 16: Warlock Pinchers – Devil Without A Pause
I have memories of talking to GX Jupitter-Larsen of The Haters about Warlock Pinchers many years ago.
Track 17: Victims Family – Anti-Satan Song For Mom
I remember when CDs were relatively new, because they held more music, Victims Family put out a CD with two of their previous albums on it. I always thought that was pretty punk.
